Our Bodies Belong To God

When we look at the creation account in the book of Genesis we see God speaking things into existence but when it comes to the creation of Adams body, He actually takes time to mold it from the dust of the earth and to blow His breath into it. Adam and Eve were specifically designed to reflect His image and our bodies matter to God- in fact He says we should offer our bodies as a living sacrifice.

I think we should be taking care of our bodies, keeping them healthy and functional, we should be good stewards of our bodies. The problem arises when we place an over-emphasise on our outward appearance, not only do we leave little room for diversity in beauty but we make an idol of our bodies. To hate our bodies is to hate a gift from God but to over emphasize our appearance or beauty is to be prideful.

As followers of Christ we should treat our bodies with respect, keeping in mind that our bodies belong to God. Some specific ways we can do this is by avoiding gluttony, remaining sexually pure and controlling our words.

When thinking about our body and our appearance, the questions that should come to mind is: does the way I present my body reflect the glory of God? Does the way I present my body indicate that I have dedicated my life to the Lord Jesus Christ?

Remember you were fearfully and wonderfully made, called to bring glory to the living God- and one way of doing that is presenting our bodies to God as a living sacrifice.
